Our Nursery

Carlton and Gedling Day Nursery has a reputation second to none in Nottinghamshire with first class childcare and education. Providing a warm, friendly atmosphere and a wide variety of experiences, means your child will benefit not only from expert physical care by fully trained and experienced staff, but also from a carefully planned programme of activities specially designed to meet the needs of each age group within the Nursery. Your child will also benefit from the companionship of other children and learn to work, play and co-operate with others beyond the family group.

Development files

All children are designated a key person who will work closely with them providing care and support and helping them feel happy, confident and secure. This key person will monitor your child’s progress and development through observations, and record it in their development file. The file will be available for you to view at any time so you are fully informed of your child’s achievements as they progress.

Daily Routine

The nursery is open from 7:30am to 6:00pm, Monday to Friday.
We provide breakfast until 8:15am, which is usually a selection of toast and/or cereals.

During the morning children have a light snack, which is usually milk or juice and a selection of fresh fruit.

Around 11:30 a two course cooked lunch will be provided.
After lunch our younger children generally need a short nap so we provide individual sleep-mats and blankets, but children do not have to sleep if it’s not part of their usual routine. Fixed cots are provided for babies to sleep whenever they wish.

A sandwich or a hot tea is served at around 3:15pm.

Drinks are provided throughout the day, meals are well planned for nutritional needs and the weekly menu can be found on the Parents Notice Board. We can cater for any special diet your child may require.

Our children also enjoy the benefits of visits to events and attractions in the local community for example libraries, parks, shops and fire stations

Inside, Carlton and Gedling is split over two floors. Downstairs are the babies, younger toddlers and older toddlers. Our special baby unit offers a variety of stimulating toys in a big playroom. One side is used for carpet play, quiet time or sleep and the other, separated by a small gate, is used for messy play or meal times. This space allows babies to explore safely. Toddlers also have their own spaces. Younger toddlers have a spacious room with a conservatory window overlooking the garden, offering plenty of light, with areas for both messy and quiet play in a home from home environment. Older toddlers have an extensive room next to this with plenty of toys for self play and a cosy book corner to settle down.

Downstairs is also home to our ball pool. Here you will find a two level soft play area with a slide, a car wash, spaces to climb and hide and of course a ball pit to plunge into.

Outside, Carlton and Gedling not only boasts a large, shady garden with artificial grass but this overlooks their large soft surface playground. This widespread space allows children to play feely and safely with outdoor equipment including bikes, scooters, see saws and games. This area, which extends around the building on two sides, has recently been covered with a purpose built canopy, so that children can be involved in outdoor activities whatever the weather. It allows for sand, water, painting activities, parachute games and summertime picnics.

Upstairs is home for pre-school and out-of-school club. The large room has areas for quiet, messy and imaginative play, there is something for everyone. All children have frequent access to a computer and play is in line with the Early Years Foundation Stage.
